Madison - Executive Secretary Jane Hojan-Clark of the Wisconsin Higher Educational Aids Board (HEAB) announced today that the Joint Committee on Finance has approved the 2002-2003 administrative memorandum for the Minnesota-Wisconsin Interstate Tuition Reciprocity Program. By approving the memorandum, the committee has ensured that the program will continue to serve Wisconsin residents who wish to go to Minnesota for their college education.
The Minnesota-Wisconsin Interstate Tuition Reciprocity Program is an agreement between Wisconsin and Minnesota. It allows Wisconsin residents to attend state colleges and technical colleges in Minnesota for approximately the same tuition costs of a comparable school in Wisconsin. Minnesota residents have the same opportunities for attending Wisconsin schools. Over 10,000 Wisconsin residents take advantage of this program each year.
Executive Secretary Hojan-Clark emphasized that participation in this program is not automatic, "While all Wisconsin residents are eligible, there is an application form that must be completed and processed by HEAB." Applications for the 2002-2003 academic have been mailed to state high schools and other participants in the program. Interested residents should contact their high school, the Minnesota college they are thinking of attending or HEAB to obtain an application. In addition, HEAB plans to have an on-line application available for completion shortly.
"This program has a long and proud tradition. Tens of thousands of Wisconsin residents have been served over the past 30 years" remarked Governor Scott McCallum. "It is a strong sign of Wisconsin's outstanding commitment to educational opportunity that this program continues to flourish and grow."
